Characters that have left behind a mark

It is surprising how more than the story, the characters end up getting subtly imprinted in one’s subconscious mind. Agree or not they do start taking a toll on your actions and reactions. Here is a  tribute to the characters who have been my favorites and the ones  that have annoyed me the most

                                         Characters that have inspired me

Hermione granger: Intelligent, soft spoken and insanely brave this   young girl owes a great deal of the “fictitious character influence “that has shaped me into what I am. She unlike many of the female protagonists is not pretty or classy but has succeeded to capture the imagination of every teenage girl.  How she grows up to be one of the best witches in spite of having born to muggle parents, stands testimony to the fact that one doesn’t need a firsthand influence by parents to make it big in a particular domain. Her take on friendship and the way she values it has taught me that yes, friendship is worth letting go off your ego.

2.        Howard Roark : He may be branded an eccentric ,if ever chanced upon in real   life but thanks to Ayn Rand for having created him in order to slap the very face of hypocrisy with the virtue called integrity. Thank you Roark for constantly propelling me to achieve individualism and objectivity, the two threads that have loosened its ends in our society’s moral fabric.

Sati : The portrayal of sati in Indian mythological serials is at complete odds with Amish tripathy’s character sketch and I have chosen to imagine her as the latter. She is one hell of a character who has managed to move me into tears. The chapter “THE MAGNIFICENT KILL” still gives me goose bumps.  She is the most passionate female lover ever portrayed till date, yet how she chooses her dharma of being a mother to Ganesha over being a wife to Shiva speaks volumes about her uprightness. A fearsome warrior who can single handedly duel a hundred men, I wish this metamorphasizes into a reality given the present day situation.

Aamir : I loved this character for its plain simplicity, someone you can relate yourself with . He is no great or an upright guy, a plain  guy next door who has jealousy, selfishness, cowardice and complacency . Khaleid hosseni expresses a very simple notion that you don’t have to be exceptionally gutsy to make a mark, all you need is some level of humility and courage to accept your mistakes and pay a penance by taking up that extra pain to make it up for all your past misdeeds.

Characters that have annoyed me

I am ready to get kicked by a bunch of 15 yr old girls, but with a heavy heart I must reveal to the world that, Bella swan has been the most annoying female protagonist I ever had to deal with. There is a quote in twilight first part where Edward Cullen says that he was able to read through the minds of all the girls he had come across but not Bella’s. My take on that is, well she had nothing in her head that could be read, just vacuum space.  Next in the line are Chetan Bhagat’s male and female protagonists. The guy is always  a homely, shy ,pure virgin who loves a horny girl from a distance .But no these guys coming straight from Alok nath ji’s mouth get seduced and are made to lose control by their lady love who for some unknown reason always has to be a ravishing beauty. Perhaps in Mr. Bhagat’s perception, an average or a below average looking woman is not entitled to select ‘F’ in the gender column of any application form.  And last but not the least it’s surprising how Durjoy dutta manages to weave a character that gets onto your nerves , forcing you to shut the book midway and sell it off in a second hand market in Nai sarak . Deb is a meticulous guy who works day and night to come up with elaborate plans to bang a girl and add her into his esteemed list named “hey babe you just got lucky”, a list that he goes flaunting around like an Olympic medal. Then he claims to have retired from his play boy attitude for the sake of the most beautiful girl that mankind has ever seen (give me a break!! who wouldn’t fall for her) and then what follows is pure unadulterated love or at least that’s what “Of course I love you …..” claims …..
